Silverstone Oct 2004
Our second outing with the M3 CSL at a Britcar endurance race was on the short Silverstone National circuit. The car was in the same trim as Thruxton and road legal! Formula Ford ace Ed Moore joined owner Tony Rodriguez in what turned out to be the first full race for the car. The weather was great for October and stayed dry for the whole race. Qualification went well with the car being placed 8th overall on the grid and amazingly 1st in our class with a cracking 1:03.186 lap time. This was just 2 seconds behind the very quick Handkammer/Leslie E36 in the class above. We crossed our fingers as Ed started the race, hoping for good things this time! Ed started fantastically, running for the first hour before handing over to Tony. This was extremely nerve-racking for all of us as this was Tony's very first race after the aborted Thruxton event. As expected, he just got straight down to business posting consistent lap times a second or two behind Ed who finished the race out, pulling the car up to 7th place. This gave as an amazing 3rd in class behind two very quick and established BMW M3s. We were amazed and very pleased to walk away from the first proper outing for the car with a nice shiny cup!
