Donington Nov 2004
Feeling confident with our success after Silverstone, we decided to enter two events at Donington. The first was an Open GT race, where cars from various GT races such as the British GT were invited to contest each other. The second race was another Britcar endurance race with a twist - run at night in the pitch black! Tony Rodriguez partnered with newcomer Angus Dawe for the first race. Angus was a seasoned trackdayer who also owned a mildly modified CSL road car. The race car featured a couple of minor modifications. A new extended front bumper with splitter and a rear wing were added, along with the removal of the stereo and aircon to save a little weight! The GT Open race was split into 2 races each of 1hr length with a 15 minute break. We qualified 17th out of 22 cars with a time of 1:27.667 in the wet. Pole was a GT3 Cup car with a 1:18.887, so we were obviously a lot slower than most of the field! The rain stopped for the race with a dry line present. Angus did incredibly well, matching Tony's pace. The pair lapped consistently in the 1m18s with a combined result that placed them 7th overall! This was outstanding considering the competition.
For the Britcar night race, Tony once again teamed up with Ed Moore. Conditions were horrendous with a lot of carnage in a first corner incident. Despite the appalling conditions a sterling performance saw the car incredibly take 3rd overall, with a 1st in class! Needless to say we where over the moon!
